The Beltline will break ground September 10 on Northwest Trail Segment 3B at the Atlanta Technology Center. With 16.7 miles of the 22-mile trail open, this is the less glamorous but more immediately useful side of the bigger transit argument: actual physical trail gaps are continuing to close.

The segment is nearly a mile long and includes a pedestrian bridge over Northside Drive. Bridges and gap closures matter disproportionately on a trail network because they turn disconnected pieces into routes people can actually use without dropping back onto hostile streets.

This is also why the construction story is worth separating from the rail proposal. The rail debate may take years to resolve; the trail itself is still being completed in pieces that change how people move around Atlanta much sooner.

For D, this is the kind of local infrastructure update Wake Up should keep surfacing: not every ceremonial groundbreaking, but the ones that materially connect a route, neighborhood or destination you can actually use.
