MARTA↗ is changing a parking rule that is easy to miss until it costs you money. Starting Monday, September 14, every paid long-term parking facility increases by $2 a day.
Locations that currently cost $5 move to $7; those that cost $8 move to $10. More important for some riders, the free parking window at those paid long-term facilities falls from 24 hours to 14 hours.
That 14-hour threshold is the detail to remember. A long workday, airport connection or evening event can now cross into paid parking even if the same trip would previously have fit inside the free period. Free daily parking lots are not affected by the change.
MARTA says its last system-wide parking-rate increase was in 2009. The agency says the additional revenue supports maintenance and future upgrades and moves parking operations closer to financial self-sufficiency.
If you use MARTA as part of a flight strategy, check the station type before leaving the car. “MARTA parking” is no longer a single economic category: a free daily lot and a paid long-term facility will behave very differently after Monday.
